Tips For Undertaking This Work:

A 3D Character Artist is still an artist. The artistic side of the skill is by far the most important.

The technical side is a skill to help you learn the software and techniques.  Anyone can learn the software with a bit of effort, but concentrate your skills to grow as an artist.

Download the demo version of Maya or 3DS Max and start watching tutorials on the basics on the Autodesk Youtube channel or any of the multitude of Youtube fee tutorials online.

Learn by practise….set yourself a target and start practising your skills. Keep practising until you reach a point where your work reaches the same level as the Character work from current AAA XBOne / PS4 / PC Games out there.
Do not get discouraged, this self-learning education process will take at least a few years to become good enough to reach professional level.

Be self-critical about your work. Judge your own work and think about what works, what is possible to improve, what does not look good. This is a skill all artists have to learn.
